  28. How to get started
  29. ------------------

  31. This is an MS-DOS program that requires complete control of the
  32. machine for precise timing.  You must completely exit out of
  33. Microsoft Windows before running it.  It will not transmit or
  34. receive properly if run from an MS-DOS Prompt window.
  35.  
  36. Create a new directory and copy all the files to the directory.
  37. For example, if your floppy disk drive is A,
  38.  
  39.     CD \
  40.     MKDIR SSTV
  41.     CD SSTV
  42.     XCOPY A:*.*
  43.  
  44. If you already have an SSTV/WEFAX interface connected, run
  45. EZSSTV then press the Enter key or click on the Recv button.
  46.  
  47. If you don't have an interface yet, or run into problems
  48. receiving, read HARDWARE.TXT and POWER.TXT.

  52.            KNOWN PROBLEMS

  55. * Trident 8900 lies about capabilities.
  56.  
  57.     Description:
  58.  
  59.     It seems that there are different variations of the Trident TVGA
  60.     8900.  Most are capable of 32K simultaneous colors and work fine
  61.     with the Pasokon TV software.  There have been a couple reports
  62.     that colors are quite strange.  
  63.  
  64.     We found that the VESA-standard method of determining the display
  65.     modes available produced incorrect information.  Specifically,
  66.     when running the included VGAINFO program, the VGA card claimed 
  67.     to have 32k color (mode 110H) capability when it did not.  Another 
  68.     Trident-specific program revealed that the hardware was capable 
  69.     of only 256 colors.

  71.     Work-around:

  73.     Put this line in the PKTV.CFG file:
  74.  
  75.         GMODE 101
  76.  
  77.     This will force 256 color mode instead of trying to use a
  78.     capability which really isn't there.
  79.  
  80.     Again, I repeat, most Trident TVGA 8900 display adapters work fine
  81.     at 640 x 480 with 32K colors.  Perhaps it is just a few older ones 
  82.     that lie about their capabilities.

  84.     There was ONE report (second hand from a friend of the owner of
  85.     the machine) that a TVGA 8900 would operate only in graphics mode
  86.     13H (320 x 200 resolution) with Pasokon TV.  Solution: contact
  87.     Trident and demand a VESA driver that will make their hardware
  88.     work with well established industry standards.
